Genes Take Charge, and Diets Fall by the Wayside.

There is a reason that fat people cannot stay thin after they diet and that thin people cannot stay fat when they force themselves to gain weight.

Some individuals are more predisposed than others to obesity-associated diseases. Genes can directly cause obesity. Obesity is a complex disease resulting from the interactions of a wide variety of hereditary and environmental factors. The most common forms of obesity are probably the result of variations within a large number of genes. It’s now clear that the source of obesity can differ widely from person to person. If people were expecting to find one gene to cure obesity, that’s just not how this  works. Understanding how these combinations work will take a lot more research and time. 03-19-2015 6:06am
