This short site shows numbers and percentages of how common interest is, as well as other genitalia abnormalities. The statistics supposedly show that one in 1,666 births there is a person without a definitive XY or XX chromosomal makeup. They say this is about the number of times doctors have to call in a sexual identification specialist to identify the atypical genitalia. This is what the numbers say, but after watching the Ted talk and talking in class, I realize that this might not be completely true. That's why I put statistics in quotations, because it's really unknown and there isn't a completely common interest definition that labels human beings one way or another. This is why it is a sensitive subject and looked upon awkwardly by society. People need to be aware that it is a tough situation for a person to deal with and must be handled with care and sympathy.
