Week 13 Post 2

I chose this article because this week I learned about male violence and how it’s almost encouraged in society. I learned all this when watching the video Tough Guise. This article is written by a feminist so I’d take the information with a grain of salt but many of the things mentioned here ring true. Especially when it said that “male violence is the worst problem in the world because it is both catastrophic and indiscussable.” It is such a big problem now because people aren’t mentioning it. Because people aren’t mentioning it, it almost implies that it’s ok when it’s really not. It is a serious problem that can only be fixed when it can be discussed in society. This article brings up a lot of good points. This type of violence is largely denied and pushed under the rug or it’s considered a “woman’s issue” according to the article. It’s not just a woman’s issue. It’s everyone’s issue and it can only be stopped when everyone fights back against it. Of course there are many men that are against this violence too but if everyone took a stand, this problem could easily be fixed.

So many valid points are brought up by the author of this article. I cannot tell you the number of times, i have thought about the fact I am truly scared to have a daughter in this world. I consider myself independent and tough for a women, and sometimes I forget about the problems of male violence for myself personally. But i really find the comment the author made about male violence being undiscussable, and being compared to discussion of religion; a powerful comparison. 04-12-2016 1:13pm

I liked this article, I think that it is very eye opening and that male violence is pushed in the corner where no one will talk about it or mention it. This has been happening for so long, it is hard to realize that if people don't speak up then it will never change. 04-22-2016 8:08am

This article touches on a lot of great points. Male violence is encouraged in many parts of our society. Men are also taught that they should not show emotion, when a person is detached from emotion, it is easier to justify violence. This violence... more »This article touches on a lot of great points. Male violence is encouraged in many parts of our society. Men are also taught that they should not show emotion, when a person is detached from emotion, it is easier to justify violence. This violence is further easy to justify toward emotional beings, which is what society says women should be. 05-06-2016 11:11am
