This topic is particularly interesting to me because I have a lot of addicts in my family. I added another item on my shelf about rat park and the social factors surrounding addiction, but I wanted to balance that out with something about the actual physiology of addiction in the body. This article is just a nice overview on some of the chemistry behind addiction and the pleasure hormones that are released when engaging in addictive behavior. It goes into the hormones, where they are produced and released, and how they hijack the brain and create a powerful learning process. I decided to put this on my shelf because it touches on many things we talked about in class, while also delving into some new topics such as tolerance and areas of the brain where addiction takes control! 10-19-2016 8:20pm
