Aging Fitness, not physical activity, mitigates negative effects of prolonged sitting

This article states that even if people are physically active, they may not be fit. It details a cross sectional study done in Norway that measured physical activity and cardiovascular fitness, for ages 70-77 years of age. V02 max was used to find cardiovascular fitness and accelerometers for physical activity. They compared different activity level with fitness level. Also they looked at risk factors for cardiovascular health. They found that individuals spent 12-15 hours doing sedentary activities. The participants with the most sedentary hours, were found to be at a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases. So just physical activity is not enough for complete fitness.
